I do not want to repeat, so I will say at the beginning. When drawing cartoons you must to relax, even if a mistake is no big deal. Can always be corrected by deleting error or ctrl + z. In any case, the drawing does not look real! When you look into a face can see that some elements are small and some larger. So make that big to be bigger, and what little to be less. Heads are usually large, thin neck and small body.
The first part I will only say a few words. Of the components necessary to have is a computer, a graphics tablet and drawing program. Of course all this can be done on paper with pencil. I have the minimum requirements for work Windows XP Service Pack1, 2,4Ghz, 512 RAM, Genius EasyPen i405X Graphic tablet, and program SAI painter. Even if I never tasted, recommend everyone to buy Wacom graphic tablet. I have not finished any school of art nor have I stolen following material.
Exercise
I believe that all the necessary tests and exercises before the start of any work, so we will deal here with a few details. In SAI painter select Pen and set Size 7, Min size 42%, Density 80, edge shape Sharper.
Do a few repetitions the following lines until you practice your hand and get the desired shape.

Shadows draw with lots of thin parallel lines. Generally diagonally from top to bottom. Setings

Tools that use in SAI painter: Pen, Eraser, Bucket, Lasso and another Pen.
Because I draw on a small area Pen Size is normal 5,0 , small 0,7-1,0 , big 10.0 . Rapidly increasing or decreasing the size, on keyboard "[" and "]". Difference between the pen is First- Min size 42% ( with 42% have full stable line), second -Min size 0% (with 0% I have the possibility of drawing a thin sharp tip).
And most important thing of all - layers. Always if you need to add new layers.
Face
When I draw a caricature, 7 items are most important to me that all people are different: eyes, eyebrows, ears, hair, nose, mouth and chin. All the other little things are also important: birthmark, wrinkles, shadows, piercing, mustaches and beards, teeth, glasses, hats, skin tones, tattoos....
Eye
First you draw the eyes. I will take as an example of Johnny Depp - Man of a Thousand Faces. This is example workspace 873x1200 pixels.
Draw the bottom line of the eye.
Draw the iris (and pupil but in this case there is no need) with reflection.
Just line for upper lashes whose space I'll fill in later.
Bottom lashes in short lines.
With Eraser drawing a line in the lower iris I'd made the whiteness.
Another eye will draw the same way. Here several examples of eye.
Eyebrow
Continue with the eyebrow. First draw the bottom lines.
Add the top line and the right of the vertical line closing.
Fill the form with Bucket.
Add hair (lines) to the left.
Now take Eraser and drawing a lines from the outside to the inside top and bottom.
That's it. The same procedure on the other side. Also have to be careful about the distance. Here several examples of eyebrows.
Nose
Nose always starts from the left part. I will make the bottom line nostril first.
Now right nostril.
And the central part of the nostrils.
Now do the lines on the left and right nostrils up.
At the bottom of the nostrils draw the line of shadow.
Fill space for shadow with Bucket.
If you feel that something is wrong, check your work and the original image. Little bit with Eraser cut the top lines and bottom shadow. As I said all the errors can be corrected.
Other parts of the nose will end up with the shadow. If any part of unbalanced or not in place take the Lasso, mark the part that you want to move and move. I will drop the nose down.
I make caricatures that looks like a person and therefore look realistic. But this is not a problem if some of those parts of the face increase or decrease. Here several examples of nose.
Mouth
In this case, between the nose and mouth are mustache. First I draw a mouth that would later determine the length and size of the mustache. First, draw the top of the upper lip.
Thence extending lines to the left and right.
And draw the lower lip. This is a special case where the lower lip in a V-shaped. I usually need the 3 lines. Since the rest of the lower lip lines coincide with the color of the skin, it will later paint.
Watch the line that separates the lips, sometimes flat, sometimes in V-shaped, sometimes WW-shaped, here it comes in M-shaped.
I will add a shadow in the middle.
Mark the mouth and reduce them horizontally because I do not want to be so broad. Click Marquee, icon left. Select Size and move. Press Ok.

Mustache
For mustache open a new Layer, take Pen tool and draw the shape of mustaches.
Now switch to the Layer below, and short strokes, draw the lines in the direction in which hairs are going to original pictur, inside box that you drew.
Now delete the Upper Layer and with Eraser wipe all that is needed.
For the hair below the lower lip draw a horizontal line and turned it down more vertical.
I have a desire to reduce mouth and mustache, if you satisfies skip this step.
Take Marquee and draw rectangle to the top of the nose. Check the entire mouth and mustache.
Select Size mode, and pull up lower point in the middle and click OK.
The shape of the head
With Page Down zoom out and the original image and your image to see the entire shape of the head which need to plot.
Draw the shape of the face in a few lines, mostly flat. It's just construction. Reduce forehead, magnify the jaw.
Delete all redundant lines.
With Marquee, Size mode reduce the whole face of left to right, just a little. Because it looks too real. Why reduce, why not increase? If you reduce the pixels will be OK after processing to be as normal. If you stretch the image and the pixels will increase, occurs that lines are blurred.
Beard
Beard like mustache, draw the contour of the beard.
Now paint beard with bucket.
With Eraser make fine lines from top to bottom, with Pen from bottom to top.
Hair
For hair I will first draw external shape, contour.
Draw a parting of hair, and determine the contours of all the light areas of hair.
Close all the contour lines of hair and fill with Bucket black area.
I see now that cheeks on the right should be slightly extended. I'll take the Eraser and erase small part. deleted and the edge of the jaw, because they are too low. I will add the lines that are a bit steep. Why I did it before? Because I now saw that something does not fit. Before it looked like a completely ok.
Brighten up hair with small lines that will go out beyond the hair, and thin lines within the light areas of hair.
I'll have little to reduce the upper left section of hair with Merquee and set a nice lines. I think a lot of curved to left. So it looks like this. Sometimes this has a lot of changes, sometimes goes from the first. No one is perfect not even me. Move on.
Ears
In the original picture is not visible ears from the hair so I do not draw. Here several examples of ears.
Neck
By original image we can determine the neck and body will be less or more than the head. In most is big heads and small bodies. So draw a thin neck with 2 lines.
Just below the chin add line at an angle. To check how long it will shadow. Pay attention to the light. If the light is on the left, draw a line shadow from left to right from top to bottom. If the right, contrary. Shadow in the picture from top to bottom. But I will certainly put it on the side.
And fill it.
Add a pair of curved vertical lines and thin horizontal, and that's it.
Body
For body will first complete the form around the neck. If you want an easier way to determine size, reduce the original image and increase your image.
Now drawing collar, shoulder and arm, all in line. Make sure your shoulders are short as possible.
On the other side the same.
If you closed all the lines fill the body with Bucket.
Take Eraser and drag lines on the body, to create the appearance of gentlemen's clothing.
Shadows
If there is anyone among you who can not determine where the shadow line. Do not draw on original image because we still need.
Add new Layer, and in it draw the outline shadows with red.
Add new Layer, reduce the line thickness of 0.8, 1.0 or 2.0 with "[". And draw parallel lines, as in the above exercises. I will show you part by part. If some of the lines go out of red, delete by Eraser.
So now I'm drawing the thickness decreases to 2.0 , resizing 0.8.
Now delete the Layer with red lines.
Colors
Coloring is the final part. Add New Layer and set "Blend Mode" to Multiply and slide it underneath all other Layers. I have the option to take color with buttons on the pen. Take color from original picture for mouth and draw.
Usually color the eyes, mouth, hair and clothes. eyes and clothes will be skipped. Now take the hair color.
Add new Layer and draw white of eyes.
